Rehabilitation of the runways at Mombasa Airport, Kenya - 02/02/2018
The Kenya Airport Authority has just awarded Sogea-Satom (VINCI Construction International Network), in a joint venture with Razel Bec, the rehabilitation of the runways at the international airport in Mombasa, the country’s second-largest city and the largest port in East Africa.
The works will include the rehabilitation of the pavements of the two runways, 12 taxiways and 4 aircraft parking areas, as well as the creation of a rainwater recovery system and the rehabilitation of the entire lighting system (runway lights, approach lights, etc.).
The airport will remain in service during the 24 months of works, with operations specifically relating to the rehabilitation of the runways being carried out at night in order to maintain air traffic.
With 1.3 million passengers a year, Mombasa Airport is Kenya’s second airport, offering direct links to Europe, Asia and the principal cities in the region.  Its rehabilitation will enable air traffic to be increased, with the second runway being used for smaller planes, and result in enhanced passenger safety and comfort.
Contract value: €60m.
